A country and its ways...

India is one heck of a country & I just love it for what it is!  It never ceases to amaze me. Not a day goes without news…. literally!

I have been rather keenly following recent developments. It’s time I put my cent or two in what really matters to most of us.

After multiple debacles such as supremely poor embarrassing handling of Anna led Anti-corruption movement, Ramdev mid-night lathi charge fiasco, poverty line cutoff  from 28 INR to 32 INR per day dud , Gurgaon 8 p.m. timeline joke, Momota didi’s full-fledged black mail and subsequent  roll-back of Railway fare hike and the latest being the leaked letter from General V K Singh to PM Manmohan Singh - UPA II circus has successfully managed to do the worst kind of damage to the nation and bring the best out of Indian democracy. As a nation, we were never more active, alive and vibrant before! Were we?

“Other than sports, only war and catastrophe can create this sort of national unity.” – Simon Kuper

Our current house appears to be one such catastrophe. The latest Censure Motion against Team Anna may well turn out to be last nail in the coffin. The Congress has recently moved a breach of privilege notice against Team Anna. Meanwhile, the Lok Sabha adopted a censure motion against Team Anna for the remark when he said 162 MPs in Lok Sabha face criminal charges.

Do you really have to be a rocket scientist to realize what they said unquestionably has some teeth to it. Don’t we all know at least 1/3rd of our MPs and MLAs have criminal record? The information is available in public domain. It’s hard to believe that all of them are politically motivated. Instead of passing a censure motion against Team Anna, does it not make sense for you to place your house in order SIRS?! I seriously fail to understand why is it so important to give tickets to those with serious criminal charges against them at first place? One may or may not agree with Team Anna on various issues. However, considering his anti-corruption crusade and the government’s corruption record, there is little doubt left on who & what is right, particularly in this case.

In hindsight, mass demonization of all the politicians is inappropriate. Nevertheless, when 1/3rd and more of your colleagues have serious criminal charges and even more have corruption charges against them; “stereotyping” is definitely bound to be there. It needs to be dealt with utmost caution and dignity. Instead, UPA II is at its reckless best! Our UPA ministers seriously need to grow up, show restraint & get some life. There are better ways of dealing with issues of National importance. ;)

Respect - as they say is earned, not begged for or demanded using coercion.

It seems our elected representatives are spoilt rotten by our liberal ways. Apparently they cannot take criticisms and are not up for any kind of feedback from the ones who elected them. It’s high time our reigning khadi-dharis get into a productive corrective mode, else mid-term elections can become a reality; something UPA and NDA both seem to be ill-prepared for. (How prepared is NDA for mid-term needs a separate blog… aur kisi din)

I guess that’s it from me for now Junta. Phir milenge.

Love :)

Love it

I simply love it when… Every time  I come to Baroda,  the chaai wala -  exactly next to the wheeler store at Vadodara station welcomes me with a warm smile and says “ madam, bahot dino baad aaye…" ("Seeing you after a long time madam") Dadi prepares vedhmi & fruit-salad exclusively for me. Mom hugs me.  Pooja calls me “ bena ”. I do my room, even more the whole house like a lady possessed (btw, I am the 'Cleaning Queen' of India and competing for 'Miss Crazy Cleaning' title abroad :P) Sit at the window with a cup of coffee while it’s raining. I get a gift from someone, without any occasion! ( PS: I accept gifts on occasions too) I shop & shop & shop, yet not drop. Dadi uses her classic English words to add value to her Gujarati sentence. Mama (as in mom’s brother) puts his hand on my head and shakily asks “ baddhu barabar che ne beta? Kai hoy to kehje ”? (“Is everything ok, let me know if it’s not”) I receive a compliment ...

Baatein... Kuch ankahi si.. Kuch ansuni si... Hone Lagi :))

Sorry; about the mini-hiatus.  *-I'd like to believe at least someone has missed me  : P  -* There is so much I'd like to talk about. That can wait. But this cannot! Every once in a while we realize who really matters to us, who shouldn't matter to us, who doesn't and who never will again. That's the circle of life I guess. I read it somewhere: "Friends are God's way of apologizing to us for our families."  I hope moms' not reading this one, else am dead for sure!  : P To my surprise, I've been terribly occupied off late - and I don't necessarily enjoy it! I missed writing all this while. Anyways, I'm back to what I think am happiest doing - writing. :-) If you continued to read my post having read the fully filmi title , you might be in love with me or something. <3 For me, two things make life bearable - cups of tea/coffee and loadssss of baatein.  ; ) Here are a few inconsequential conversations...

To the most selfless creature on the earth :-)

It’s the heights of the plight of education in India… Imagine someone with a Graduation in Child Psychology has children who grow up to be like us! That’s exactly what I think when I see Pooja and myself making a mess of our house, lives, and otherwise! Here’s to the woman who put her dreams and her life on the back burner to spend major part of her life deciding which  dal  will grace our dinner table, choosing what  sabzis  to will satiate us kids, and managing to how to get  both  on our tables. We get too busy growing up to realize that that our parents are growing old simultaneously. My mother just got operated for a major jaw operation. She often complaints of her knees aching like hell. Though she looks more beautiful than she ever did to me, I can see the wrinkles on her face making their presence felt. She gets tired faster than she used to. Her eyes are deeper (like literally too).  She says senti stuff like, “Just a coupl...
